Throat of the River
Gargantuan monstrosity, unaligned
Above the gorge the river is roads and ledgers; below it, a gullet. The Throat is the rapids themselves grown hungry — a ridge-backed maw of white water and broken pine that sits across the channel and swallows whatever the current delivers. Millers mark its teeth on their gauges. When the marks go under, nobody runs the gorge.

Actions
Multiattack. The throat makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with hydraulic slams.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 15 ft., one Huge or smaller target. Hit: 26 (6d6 + 5) piercing damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 17).
Hydraulic Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 26 (6d6 + 5) bludgeoning damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 17 Strength saving throw or be pushed 15 feet downstream.
Swallow. The throat swallows one creature it is grappling. A swallowed creature is blinded and restrained, has total cover against attacks from outside, and takes 14 (4d6) acid damage at the start of each of the throat's turns. It can escape by using 20 feet of movement to exit through the mouth (DC 17 Strength check) or by dealing 30 damage to the gullet from inside (AC 14). The throat can hold two Medium creatures or one Large creature at a time.
