Licenses and Attribution
FTTHelper is built on open gaming content. We use openly licensed sources and link out to everything else, so creators are credited and the platform stays within the rules.
System Reference Document (SRD 5.1)
Some game content is drawn from the Dungeons and Dragons 5e System Reference Document (SRD 5.1), made available by Wizards of the Coast under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC-BY-4.0) and the Open Game License 1.0a (OGL-1.0a).
Open OGL and Creative Commons sources
Compendium data (items, monsters, spells) is aggregated from Open5e and the D&D 5e API, under the OGL-1.0a and Creative Commons licenses. Every compendium entry links its specific source and license.
Third-party OGL publishers
FTTHelper includes open game content from the following publishers under the Open Game License 1.0a. A full breakdown with copyright notices is in the repository LICENSE.md, which also contains the full text of the OGL 1.0a and the full text of the CC-BY-4.0.
- Kobold Press — Tome of Beasts 1–3 + 2023, Creature Codex, Tome of Heroes, Deep Magic 5e/Extended, Warlock Archives, Black Flag SRD
- EN Publishing — Level Up Advanced 5e Core, Monstrous Menagerie
- Mage Hand Press — Vault of Magic
- Darrington Press / Green Ronin — Critical Role: Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn
What we deliberately exclude
Some content is owned as Product Identity by its publishers and is not part of the open gaming licenses we use. We do not include this content in our compendium or our NPC Codex, even in paraphrased form. The following are explicitly excluded:
- Creatures (Product Identity): Beholder, Mind Flayer (and Illithid), Displacer Beast, Githyanki, Githzerai, Carrion Crawler, Gauth, Kuo-toa, Slaad, Umber Hulk.
- Named characters (Product Identity): Drizzt Do’Urden, Mordenkainen, Tasha, and others named in the SRD/OGL Product Identity list.
- All-rights settings: Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Eberron, Ravenloft, Dragonlance, Dark Sun, Tal’Dorei, Wildemount, and other publisher settings whose mechanics we do not use and whose lore we do not reproduce.
The full Product Identity list and our rights decisions live in the project’s Content Rights Inventory.

AI-generated art
NPC Codex portraits and other AI-generated art on FTTHelper are original works generated via third-party image-generation services under commercial-use terms. Our current providers are:
- fal.ai — FLUX 1.1 pro and FLUX.2 pro (premium tier for curated NPC portraits)
- Cloudflare Workers AI — FLUX.1-schnell and SDXL-lightning (free tier for fallback and demo art)
AI-generated art is clearly disclosed on the art card. We do not generate art from copyrighted descriptions or use LoRA models trained on scraped copyrighted material. The full art-rights policy is in the project’s Content Rights Inventory §E.
Our content and your content
AI-generated art and original writing created on FTTHelper are our own work or our users work, not reproductions of copyrighted books. Worlds, NPCs, characters, and art that you create remain yours. Your use of FTTHelper is governed by our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
Disclaimer
FTTHelper is an independent fan tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast LLC. Dungeons and Dragons and related marks are trademarks of Wizards of the Coast. We reference external settings and sources rather than reproducing their copyrighted material.
Looking ahead
As FTTHelper grows we may pursue formal licensing to expand the official content available. Until then, the catalog grows from the SRD, open OGL and Creative Commons sources, community contributions, and our own creations.
