Loremaster’s notes
The Eldritch Knight is the "I am a Fighter who casts Firebolt" chassis. Spellcasting: EK is a 1/3 caster, choosing from the Wizard list. The best spell picks: Shield, Absorb Elements (reaction), Booming Blade, Find Familiar, Haste, Counterspell, Fireball, Blink. War Magic (level 7) is the engine: you can make a weapon attack as a bonus action when you cast a cantrip as your action. Booming Blade + War Magic = weapon attack + cantrip (1d8+weapon + 1d8 thunder + bonus-action weapon attack). Not a "I cast Fireball every round" build. Eldritch Strike (level 10) lets you, on a hit with a weapon attack, impose disadvantage on the next save the target makes before your next turn. This makes your Haste, Hold Person, Banishment, etc. very sticky. Bonded Weapon (level 3) lets you summon your weapon as a bonus action if it's within 30 feet. Useful for disarm and disarm-style encounters. Not DPR.
