Game companies increasingly give away official content. These hubs are worth bookmarking — everything listed comes straight from the publisher or their official programs.
Official free content
- Wizards of the Coast SRD program— the System Reference Documents (5.1 under CC-BY-4.0/OGL) are free to use, adapt, and even republish within license terms. See Free Rules & SRDs.
- Quick-start rules— most publishers (including indie studios like Kobold Press with its Black Flag SRD) publish free quick-start PDFs and open reference documents; check each publisher’s site.
- Open5e / D&D 5e API— community-maintained, API-accessible presentations of open-licensed rules content, and the source our own Compendium credits per entry.
Community-content programs
Programs like DMs Guild and DriveThruRPG let creators sell derivative work under specific licenses. If you publish, read the license — they differ in what you may use and where you may sell. Our License & Attribution document shows how a working attribution page is structured if you need a model.
