Pan Crawler
Small construct, unaligned
A saltling left alone in the pans through a full season does not die; it thickens. Pan crawlers are what the crust makes when nobody works it, and they keep the shape of whatever they grew around — a dropped rake, a boot, and on one occasion a surveyor. The salt company's standing order is to break the pans every eight weeks. The standing order is not always followed.

Traits
False Appearance. While the crawler remains motionless in a salt pan, a spoil heap, or a crusted stretch of mine floor, it is indistinguishable from the surface it is standing on.
Grown Around Something. Every crawler has an object at its centre. Breaking one open recovers whatever it accreted on, undamaged and thoroughly preserved. This is the only reason anyone hunts them.
Salt Burst. When the crawler drops to 0 hit points its shell fails outward. Each creature within 10 feet of it must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of its next turn.
Actions
Multiattack. The crawler makes two claw attacks.
Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) slashing damage.
