Loremaster’s notes

Evocation Wizards don't need to choose between blasting and not hurting allies — Sculpt Spells at level 2 lets you exclude as many creatures as you like from Fireball. Web at level 2 is the best battlefield control in the game: restrained, broken with a check, lasts 1 hour with concentration. At level 3, pick School of Evocation. Level 2 gives Sculpt Spells; level 6 gives a free Empowered Evocation +INT to one damage roll per cast; level 10 gives Sculpt Spells on Cone of Cold (and any other non-target spell); level 14 gives Overchannel, the signature "I add my Int modifier as extra damage to a single-target spell" cap on a 1/rest. Build priorities: max Intelligence. Pick either Alert (1/initiative +advantage on DEX saves) or Resilient (Con) at level 4. War Caster at 8. Spell Sniper at 12 (double range + extra cantrip).
